My Wife found this how to make Memphis Style Hot Dog Recipe online and we decided to give it a try. It was tasty and delicious! These bacon wrapped BBQ sauce covered dogs really hit the spot on the smoker for a summertime BBQ or even a weeknight change of pace! We enjoyed hanging outside and preparing these. INGREDIENTS:

– We used Nathan’s Hot Dogs but any hot dog will do
– Bacon (we used thick cut)
– Chopped white onion
– Chopped green onion
– Chopped Jalapeno pepper
– Heinz Bold n’ Spicy BBQ Sauce
– Hot dog buns
– Shredded cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS:

I wrapped each hot dog in one slice of bacon and then used a toothpick on both ends to hold the bacon in place. I preheated my pellet grill to 275 degrees Fahrenheit and then cooked the hot dogs for approximately 50 minutes, then turned up the temps to 325 degrees Fahrenheit for the last five minutes to crisp the bacon a little more. Then, removed them from the grill and added the additional ingredients (see video for correct order to follow recipe). THEN… ENJOY!!

  1. Anyone who buys a hotdog that isn't 100% beef should be summarily shot. Mike….I've been doing a lot of Sous Vide steaks finishing with a basic torch for a finish sear. Something like that would allow you to really fine tune your bacon doneness on a dog like this.

  2. Got to love Memphis style! They turned out awesome looking! Never had Chicago style hot dogs!

  3. Looks great Mark!!

  4. Besides the jalapeno pepper which I would keep off the hot dogs looks really good. If I had a bbq grill I'd try to make it.

  27. Hey Mike, kudos from Pensacola, FL – those are some great looking dogs!

  28. Those dogs 🌭 really looked good! 😋 Nice touch with the jalapeños. And what’s not good with bacon wrapped around it! BBQ sauce is allowed on hot dogs in Chicago, right? Lol! I don’t care, I put ketchup on mine…shh. 🤫 😉

  29. hmmmmm! bbq sauce = catsup? In Chicago? livin dangerous my man! hahahahaha!

  30. Here in the Southeast Alabama at the bottom of the state. I got this recipe from a racetrack from Newton Alabama which is closed now. I'll share it with you, it's called a whoopty doo dog….. Johnsonville type sausage of your choice, hot dog bun, sauerkraut, chili with no beans, coleslaw of your choice, sliced pickled jalapeno peppers, shredded cheese of your choice. Now this recipe I just gave you is so big most people at the racetrack when we eat it, you had to have a knife and fork. What would make it interesting if I could see you make this type of recipe with the sausage wrapped in bacon. We call it a whoopie doo dog. Because of the jalapeno peppers most of the ladies when they went to the ladies room after eating it would say whoopie doo, LOL, if all you folks get my drift. It was the most popular item on the menu at the Newton drag strip in Ozark, Alabama. That particular dragstrip has been closed for 15 years now. And a lot of us backyard chef's replicate the recipe because it was soooooooo good.

  31. The plant over your shoulder in the video, is that a basil plant?

  32. Sure looks good dude!

  33. Those look delicious man. Great cook!

  34. They look amazing, Mike! I need to find some quality dogs here in the UK. Most of the store ones are pork & chicken mix… need to find a good quality beef dog! Thanks again for the video.

  35. Just got back from a minor league baseball game. Now I want to go back just to get a dog. Don't worry about what other people say. Just keep doing what you're doing

  36. Those look so good! Maybe next time glaze them with the sauce when you crank up the heat. And I would like to recommend a sauce I use down here in Georgia, Sweet Baby Rays. Man, that is so good you'll slap your mama. (please don't slap your mama, I have no idea why that is an expression but it is. Who would hit your mama? I mean sure if she went for your hot dog but, hey then its war!) Another GREAT video and I look forward to seeing more. (maybe a polish dog version with smoked sour kraut.)

  37. Man !!! Those look really good.. Great job
